“Muslim media plays a pivotal role in society” – Ml. Sulaiman Ravat.

The award-winning host of Radio Islam’s Morning Drive and presenter on ITV, Ml. Sulaiman Ravat was speaking to Azhar Vadi on the #TributeToMuslimBroadcastersSA segment this morning on The Alternative View.

“It’s about understanding context and relevance. This is where Muslim media fits in. You are able to have discussions within an Islamic context. This is what makes Muslim media pivotal and relevant,” said Ml. Ravat.

He added that the Muslim media has relevance within local communities. “Mainstream platforms, be it radio or television, have a national approach [and] others have an international approach to what they are discussing, but Muslim media is community orientated. They bring things back home.”

Speaking about his career, Ml. Ravat said that he didn’t expect to find himself in the media space. “It was never in my list of options in terms of what I was going to do. I had no idea this is what I was going to do. I was not one who had a passion for public speaking. I gave my first public talk when I was in my fifth year [of Islamic studies], so it wasn’t voluntary.”

The #TributeToMuslimBroadcastersSA is an exclusive Ramadan broadcast on our platform, inspired by the late Ebrahim Gangat who was well known for his broadcasting talent.
