Israel launched an overnight airstrike on the densely populated Gaza strip. The Israeli Army claimed Palestinian resistance factions in Gaza launched a rocket which landed in an open area near the separation fence.

They, in turn, retaliated by launching missiles at the Gaza Strip, destroying infrastructure and tunnels used by the Palestinians. However, no Palestinian factions or resistance groups claimed responsibility for the alleged attack on Israel.

According to Sejood Shneewra, a Palestinian journalist and activist, the attacks on the Gaza Strip are intended to threaten the Palestinians, cause damage to the infrastructure, to distract and appease the Israeli population, given the unrest in the West Bank and their current political issues.

“They wanted to send a message to the Palestinians because they don’t know what to do with them in the West Bank and East Jerusalem … All they wanted to do was to white-wash their crimes in the West Bank. To make their people calm down”.

The Execution of Ammar Mufleh

Ammar Mufleh was killed by an Israeli Soldier on Friday in the occupied West Bank town of Huwara. The murder of 23-year-old Mufleh was captured on video. It is the 10th death to occur in as many days in the West Bank.

As reported by Al-Jazeera, “In the immediate aftermath, Israeli forces took away Mufleh’s body, denying him a funeral … Confrontations broke out in the town, and several Palestinians were subsequently injured”.

Shneewra said Palestinians and pro-Palestinians have launched a hashtag #HuwaraExecution to hold the Israeli occupation accountable for the crimes committed against Palestinians.

“He was defenseless. He had nothing to harm them. He was without a weapon, and he was without a knife. He was just a defenseless person, walking like normal. Of course, we got angered by this crime. Of course, we are not silent”.

Western Support of the Palestinian Cause

The Policy Chief of the European Union has condemned the killing of Mufleh and the violence perpetrated in the occupied West Bank.

Shneewra urges the international criminal court to intervene on this matter and western media not to whitewash these crimes committed by the Israeli occupation.

To speak and condemn is not the same as actively trying to end the violence in Palestinian territories, she said.

“We have witnessed at least five aggressions on the Gaza Strip, and actually, enough is enough. We are human beings. We are not numbers. Even the martyrs who were killed or murdered within the past 10 days were not just martyrs … They have dreams, they have families, and they have a life to live … We want them [western media] to see us as they see the Ukrainian people whom they supported … We are human beings just like them”.
