Cedrick Nkabinde has delivered explosive testimony. The chief of staff for suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, Nkabinde spoke before a parliamentary ad hoc committee this week.
The committee is probing allegations against KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. The inquiry centres on claims of political interference and corruption. Nkabinde’s testimony has deepened the complex web of accusations.
Nkabinde alleged Mkhwanazi threatened to “fight back” following Mchunu’s order to disband the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT). Nkabinde claimed Mkhwanazi was angry about the directive. He said Mkhwanazi warned they would “dig” into Mchunu’s past.
Following this, Mchunu suggested Nkabinde should record his calls. Nkabinde later recorded Mkhwanazi without his knowledge. He stated it was his own decision to do so. He believed he was not breaking any law.

Further threats and sensational claims
The drama surrounding the testimony escalated further when forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan allegedly sent Nkabinde a threatening message during a break in the inquiry.
It called Nkabinde a “lying crook”. It also warned he would face prison time. Members of Parliament expressed outrage at the alleged intimidation. They called for O’Sullivan to appear before the committee urgently.
