As a beginning to our every year, Salaam Foundation hosts the annual #Riding4SAeducation campaign.

In 2019 we aim to make this project just as exciting, memorable and fruitful in terms of assisting learners in difficult circumstances.

This time we will be riding from Maputo in Mozambique to Maseru in Lesotho and then on to Johannesburg. The event will commence on 13 January 2019 and culminate on 27 January 2019. We hope to cover a total distance of 1500km. The platinum sponsor behind #Riding4SAeducation 2019 is Frimax Foods once again.

Salaam Foundation CEO Fatima Sookharia explained the aim of the ride: “The project will be raising funds for educational development in South Africa as well as a primary education, health and skills centre in Mozambique. This year it is therefore a ride for Southern Africa.”

The blue team of Salaam Foundation will be passing through the following towns between 13 and 27 January 2019. Maputo, Komatipoort, Nelspruit, Barberton, Mbabane, Ermelo, Volksrust, Harrismith, Clarens, Maseru, Bloemfontein, Kroonstad, Vereeniging and Johannesburg.

The 2019 route that will be followed.

Along the journey we they will be stopping at various schools and institutions raising awareness about the importance of education to thousands of students and community members. The needs of these impoverished schools will be assessed and they will try their best to follow through with development projects in some of these institutions as we have done in the past.

Two of Salaam Foundation’s directors, Azhar Vadi and Zaheer Pahad will be joined by staff member, Ali Kandulu on the bikes. They will be supported by technical team, Ebrahim Essay and Shaheen Moola.

“We look forward to riders from all the towns joining us for each of the legs either entering or departing their respective areas. It’s refreshing to know that through adventure journeys like this we can raise funds to assist such an important cause as education in South Africa and Mozambique,” said Vadi.

He also thanked Valencia Cycles for their assistance and Freeway Toyota for making the journey possible.

On the 27 January 2019, the team intends to have their final road ride from Vereeniging to the south of Johannesburg ending at the Rietvlei Farm Zoo.

On the day they plan to host a Mountain Bike race, Outdoor Market and Braai and Potjie competition at the venue.

MTB riders will have a choice of riding a challenging 20km track while novice riders looking for some distance can register for the 14km route. For the younger kids along with parents and hikers, a graceful 5km route has been planned.

The family day is expected to be filled with fun as various stallholders and gourmet food pop-ups will be featuring.

A potjie and braai competition is also planned for those who wish to show their culinary skills over an open flame.

The application forms for the MTB race and Potjie competition can be found here. https://salaamedia.com/book-your-ticket-now/
