Lies, more lies and a heap of mockery – Israel’s losing battle on the Internet

“There are three sides to every story: your side, my side, and the truth.” – Robert Evans

Even while Israel’s bombardment of Gaza was temporarily paused last weekend, its comical attempts at propaganda continue. The social media accounts of the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) and government have gone to great lengths to convince the world they’re the ‘victim’ – and it looks like their attempts haven’t been convincing.

The Israeli propaganda machine floundered at the very start of this round of madness. A widely-publicised story (lie) about dozens of babies beheaded by Hamas during a resistance attack on 7 October was debunked immediately.

“Subsequent reports revealed that no such beheadings have been verified by any Israeli or international source – probably because they never happened,” wrote Rami Khouri, Distinguished Fellow at the American University of Beirut, about the alleged incident in the southern Israeli kibbutz of Kfar Azar.

This was just one dramatic incident of false reports spreading in the public sphere via mass media to denigrate one’s foes and support one’s allies, he continued in an article published by Al Jazeera.

“Thousands of other false reports like this circulate daily in the media – though not necessarily so savage, or spread by such luminaries as the most powerful man on Earth, at the height of an intense conflict in Palestine and Israel that has polarised global opinion.”

A few thousand murders later and the IDF was happy to show the world it found a ‘command centre’ underneath Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza. A stash of neatly-laid weapons, a baby bottle, a curtain hanging on a windowless wall. And – the best of all: a very detailed list on the wall! Oh, yes, just enough to justify a siege of an overwhelmed medical facility!

Propaganda on the Internet

One of the more despicable attempts at propaganda by this terrorist regime was a video of medical ‘supplies’ being delivered to a hospital in Gaza. Israeli soldiers were seen conducting a most noble operation; bringing much-needed medical supplies to a people starved of basic necessities by Hamas. Unfortunately for them, the Internet did not buy it.

So laughable is this entity’s attempts at brainwashing the West that those wise to their ploys haven’t hesitated to debunk each one as they come. In fact, Palestinian-American social media personality ‘Arabic McLovin’ had to compile a ‘Top Three’ list.

“Beside the fact that they were lunging around these boxes like they were empty (because they were), on top of that they printed out these last minute labels from Microsoft Word. You have to ask yourself if Israelis speak Hebrew and Palestinians speak Arabic, then why is this in English?” he asks.

“When you think about it for long enough, this is meant to show the West that they are the good guys. In addition to that, the hospital staff even told reporters that they received no such supplies.”

Although Arabic McLovin had it as Number 2, I believe the top fail was the “guarding list”. In a video published to the official IDF account, spokesperson Daniel Hagari enters a supposed Hamas tunnel and points to a list of Hamas

“There is a list! This list, in Arabic, this list says ‘We are in an operation [sic]. An operation against Israel started in [sic] the 7th October. This is a guarding list, where every terrorist writes his name and every terrorist has his own shift, guarding the people that were here.”

The video was met with widespread mockery, to say the least. Hundreds of Internet users took the opportunity to poke fun at the supposed “guarding list”, which was actually just an ordinary calendar in Arabic. Everything from kittens hiding in pipes to a caricatured image of Hagari with a pinocchio nose, creators had a blast. They were not buying it.

A curious, distasteful situation occurred at the Abu Kabir forensic institute until the 1990s. Despite the ingrained racist sentiment of Zionists towards the people of Palestine, pathologists harvested organs from Palestinians without the consent of the families of the victims. Skin, corneas, heart valves and bones were all up for taking in this practice.

Israel’s aggressive (and expensive) propaganda campaign is an act of desperation amid a turning tide of public opinion. With mounting evidence of their atrocities, they’re having to resort to all sorts of weird stunts to appear as the legitimate home of the Jewish people. The world’s media might by it, but the public does not.
