If you happen to live in Lenasia and want to make an informed decision when you cast your vote next week, do not miss the upcoming debate at Gandhi Hall.
The electoral commission will oversee a by-election for a new councillor in ward nine next week. Residents are set to vote in a new councillor on 11 September after Imraan Moosa recently stepped down from the position.
Speaking in an interview with Salaamedia on Monday, Mohammed Arai, managing editor at Beonchat, said the town hall debate will offer Lenasians an opportunity to engage with the candidates from various political parties.
“We have invited about 10 candidates vying for the position of local councillor for ward 9 in Lenasia. We have also invited a lot of people so they can interact directly with the candidates,” he said.
Hosted by Beonchat in conjunction with Salaamedia, the town hall debate will take place at Gandhi Hall on Wednesday, 4 September at 7pm. While the venue will cater for approximately 200 residents, the event will be streamed online, he said.
“You can conveniently and seamlessly watch the entire two hour town hall debate on Salaamedia platforms,” he said, noting that it will be livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube.
Last week, several by-elections were held across the country. It was a bad day for the waning African National Congress (ANC), but uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) celebrated its first local win outside KZN province and the Democratic Alliance (DA) swept suburban wards in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
