Western Cape – President Cyril Ramaphosa welcomed Britain’s Prince William at Genadendal, his official residence in Cape Town, marking the Prince of Wales’s visit to South Africa ahead of the Fourth Annual Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony, scheduled for 6 November 2024.

The Earthshot Prize, a global initiative led by the Prince, aims to tackle critical environmental challenges like climate change, pollution, and ecological degradation. Celebrating innovative and sustainable solutions worldwide, the Prize highlights efforts by individuals and communities addressing these pressing issues.

“South Africa is pleased to be the host country for this year’s awards, especially because of the focus this initiative places on the impact climate change and environmental degradation has on the African Continent.”

During their meeting, President Ramaphosa and Prince William discussed various topics of shared interest.

“The visit is indicative of the strong ties the United Kingdom, including the Royal Family, share with South Africa, and also another step towards the deepening of these historic ties.”

In a statement, the President emphasized that the Earthshot Prize has created job opportunities in South Africa beyond its environmental mission and provided a platform for local artists and designers to showcase their creativity on the global stage.
