Occupied Palestine – The situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, with Palestinian families going without enough food, clean water and medicine nearly three years into the genocide. Hospitals and clinics lie in ruins, and those still standing lack the supplies to treat the sick and wounded.
At the 81st United Nations General Assembly, scores of delegates walked out as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took to the rostrum. The walkout came after a week in which world leaders accused Israel of genocide and war crimes in Gaza.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez accused Netanyahu’s government of continuing genocide in the territory, and Jordan’s King Abdullah II said Israel’s efforts to force Palestinians off their land in the West Bank amounted to a war crime. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas asked how long some countries would stay silent or keep arming Israel.
Despite the genocide no longer making news headlines, Palestinians continue to face daily hardships as Israeli attacks on tents, homes and displacement camps go on. Gaza-based journalist Motasem A Dalloul said his family struggled to meet their most basic needs, with clinics across the territory partially or completely destroyed.
“It has been very difficult to get food and water and medicine. We can’t have access or easy access to hospitals and the clinics because of the lack of transportation,” said Dalloul.
Markets Out of Reach
Most Palestinians in Gaza have been without work since the genocide began. Israel continues to restrict the entry of food, fuel, medicine and spare parts, and many families have no clean drinking water after the territory’s water networks were destroyed.
Dalloul said the little food on sale in Gaza’s markets came at prices few could afford. Desalination plants were shutting down for lack of fuel, he said, and field hospitals could not treat patients properly because Israel had banned medicine and medical equipment from entering.
“We feel that the issue of the Gaza Strip and the issue of the Israeli genocide in Gaza has disappeared from the main headlines across the world, and this gives Israel more support, more strength to continue its genocide and to continue inflicting suffering on us,” said Dalloul.
Deadly Building Collapse
US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire in Gaza in October 2025, but displaced families still shelter in tents and bombed-out buildings. Rescue teams have no excavators or bulldozers to reach people buried under rubble.
Dalloul said more than 100 people died last week when a six-storey residential building, damaged earlier in an Israeli strike, collapsed on displaced families living inside. Civil defence figures show 14 people were rescued and 30 bodies recovered, while about 70 remain trapped.
“The genocide didn’t stop, but only the range of Israeli attacks declined, and there is continuous killing every day. There are people who are killed by Israeli attacks,” said Dalloul.
