You have seen the pictures. You have seen the videos. You have heard the cries for help, seen the tears of agony, and felt the suffering of a population under bombardment. You are witnessing genocide, as it unfolds.

This month, Palestinian photojournalist Hamza Chalan will visit South Africa. He is set to bring Gaza’s tales of tragedy as he crisscrosses the country for an audiovisual tour organised by Salaamedia and local partners.

Ponty Moletsane, chief operations officer at Salaamedia, said the tour is part of an ongoing effort to make sure Palestinians’ plight does not fade out of focus.

“This is one of many initiatives Salaamedia continues to engage in as part of our duty to keep attention focused on the ongoing genocide in Palestine,” he said.

“Supporting journalists in Gaza is crucial for a number of reasons, especially given the challenging conditions under which they work and the critical role they play in reporting the realities of life in Gaza.”

On what attendees can expect, Moletsane said: “Hamza will be sharing his personal experiences through his audio-visual presentation. The public should expect a never-seen footage and powerful insights on the ongoing genocide in Gaza”.

Since Israeli occupation forces began a genocidal campaign in the enclave in October 2023, at least 43 259 Palestinians have been killed and 101 827 wounded. The death toll continues to climb by the dozens each day with new airstrikes.
