Maximising the final ten nights of Ramadan

by Zahid Jadwat

The final ten nights of Ramadan offer a unique spiritual opportunity for believers to cleanse their hearts and seek the immense rewards of Laylatul Qadr.

Moulana Dawood Sampson, an Islamic scholar and educator, explains that these concluding nights are the most intense period of the Mubarak month. He notes that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) preferred total seclusion during this time to draw closer to the Creator.

This period is marked by the presence of angels and serves as an open door for mercy and forgiveness for those who engage in sincere worship.

According to Sampson, the focus should be on intense devotion, whether through prayer, charity, or simple acts of dhikr. He emphasises that even those with work commitments can attain the rewards of the “Night of Power” by maintaining their obligatory prayers in congregation.

“Any act of ibadah, with belief in Allah and hoping for that, anticipating those good rewards, Allah’s prepared to cleanse your heart. My dear friends in Islam, the final nights are not ordinary nights, these are extraordinary, they are an open door, a door of maghfirah, a door of rahmah, a door of forgiveness.”

Furthermore, the spiritual journey does not end with Ramadan, as believers are encouraged to carry their newfound discipline into the rest of the year.

“The Rab that you worship in Ramadan is the same Rab that you will find out of Ramadan. So now you measure your Iman and your good that you do, if you could have done it in Ramadan, you can do it in Shawwal, you can do it in Dhul-Qa’dah, you can do it in Dhul-Hijjah, and the rest of the year.”
