Urgent plans are underway to move homeless people from Laudium and southwest of central Pretoria.

Social activist, Yusuf Abramjee, City of Tshwane administrator, Lebogang Maile, former councillor, Farouk Essop, and others visited the area where they met and spoke with homeless people.

They estimated that 50 homeless people are camping in the CBD, parks and open spaces.

“Many of those homeless people are addicted to the Nyaope drug, which is why the administration has discouraged members of the public from giving money directly to those homeless,” Abramjee told Salaamedia.

He added that members of the public should instead allow the administration to handle the situation in a professional manner.
