Death of Aliya Begum: family seeks justice

by Muskaan Ayesha

In the quiet village of Antharam, Telangana, India, the tragic death of 15-year-old Aliya Begum has sparked a legal and social discussion about violence, justice, and community relations. The Class 10 student succumbed to her injuries five days after a confrontation escalated into physical violence.

According to police reports, the dispute began over repeated instances of public urination near the house of the accused. On the night of the incident, a confrontation took place, during which Aliya’s father, Mohammed Ismail, was allegedly attacked by two men. When Aliya intervened, she suffered severe injuries that ultimately led to her passing.

Authorities have confirmed that both accused were under the influence of alcohol at the time. The Telangana police have arrested them, and legal proceedings are underway.

Community and family response

Aliya’s family has expressed their commitment to pursuing justice through legal means. Her mother, in a statement to the media, emphasised that they do not view the incident as a communal matter and are not facing external pressure to withdraw their case.

“There is no pressure on us from anyone, and no one is asking us to back off. We will not compromise. We want justice. Our daughter is gone, and we want the culprits to be punished severely,” she stated.

According to the Indian Express, local law enforcement officials, including Superintendent of Police Ch Rupesh, have assured that the case is being handled with due diligence.

“The situation in the village is peaceful, and we have offered full support to the family of the deceased. There is no communal tension,” he said.

The case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for murder, assault on a woman, causing grievous hurt with dangerous weapons, intentional provocation, and shared criminal intent.

As the legal process unfolds, questions about conflict resolution, alcohol-related violence, and public safety remain in focus.
