State capture is in full-swing in the United States, according to a commentator.
Speaking in an interview with Salaamedia on Monday, Haroon Cajee, a social commentator based in Perth, Australia, said the American government was captured by President Donald Trump, similar to the way South Africa’s Jacob Zuma seized state institutions in the previous decade.
“He put people into key institutions. He controlled the Parliament. He controlled corruption commissions. He controlled the tax office. He controlled the parastatals. Then, he went about looting it,” said Cajee.
He added: “Trump’s done exactly the same. America is captured by Trump. The power of the House and the power of the Senate is lost. He’s packed the Supreme Court. He’s put all his acolytes into key positions and they’re making decisions”.
No one is able to challenge him; the State’s been captured,” he said.
Cajee further stated that Trump’s America was not unlike Vladimir Putin’s Russia.
“If you take America and Russia, they operate on the same logic. They’re both oligarchies now because it’s the control of the very few people and the billionaires that surround themselves around Trump, same as Putin. Checks and balances? On paper. Power? Above law; they’ve abandoned law.”
