There will be no time for Palestinians in Gaza to mourn the death of their loved ones as a litany of atrocities will be repeated. So said an activist in the wake of the discovery of mass graves at a medical complex in the besieged enclave.

Speaking in an interview on Salaamedia, Bethlehem-based activist Baha Hilo said the discovery of mass graves was another in a series of crimes committed by Apartheid Israel during its war on Gaza.

“It’s viewed as just another one of those crimes that Palestinians in Gaza have been subjected to since the beginning of the genocide. The families of the murdered Palestinians do not have time to actually start mourning,” he said.

Pressure is mounting for an international, independent investigation into the discovery of 392 bodies buried in separate mass graves. These were found at the Nasser Medical Complex and al-Shifa Hospital, where Israeli forces recently laid siege.

No time to mourn

Hilo said there was no time to mourn the death of thousands of Palestinians who have been killed since Israel launched an offensive late last year. For the cornered population, he said, everyday brought the same fight for survival.

“They do not have time to deal with this adversity because they are desperately surviving each and every day of the ongoing genocide for six months. People are exhausted, people have been put on survival mode for so long, so this kind of ‘new discovery’ is something that the Palestinians themselves in Gaza have been telling us about while it’s happening.”

He said calls for an investigation were futile as they would only strengthen the perpetrators of the alleged massacres to get away.

“Instead of calling upon [the] Israeli government to hand over the criminals who committed this crime, we call for an investigation. When we call for an investigation,we give the chance for those Israeli criminals to get away with this crime.”

Meanwhile, Rafah, a southern Gaza city home to more than a million people, was on Friday the scene of constant artillery shelling. This came as Al Jazeera quoted a senior official as saying the military was “moving ahead” with an impending ground invasion.
