Social Intifada’s Palestine Youth Event Promises Fun, Education, and Awareness

by Thaabit Kamaar

Johannesburg – Excitement is building as the Social Intifada group prepares for their annual Palestine Youth Event and Family Market this Friday and Saturday at Emmarentia Primary School. This event promises to be a remarkable gathering for a worthy cause, raising awareness about the Palestinian people and their ongoing struggle for freedom and liberty from the Israeli occupying regime.

Rayhana Harvey, from Social Intifada, stated that all events and activities are themed around Palestine. Catering to youth of all ages, each program aims to be fun, educational, and informative, covering Palestine’s people, history, and geography.

“One of the objectives of social intifada is to bring people together, educate, empower, and create awareness about what is happening in Palestine. Some of our creative activities, which we call the Creative Corner Marque, will be set up on the day. We’ll have canvas painting, Paintbrush with Love bringing their ceramics, and cookie and cupcake decorating, all themed around Palestine, whether the symbols or the colours.”

“Our volunteers and social intifada coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that we speak about Palestine constantly throughout these activities. It’s a fun learning experience designed to educate participants.”

“For older kids, we’ve got a variety of activities such as bouncy houses, five-a-side soccer, Gladiator Challenges, and other exciting games. These activities are not only about having fun and challenging each other but also about learning. The end goal is to ensure that participants gain knowledge, whether it’s about a city in Palestine, such as Gaza, or other relevant topics.”

Not only will there be various activities for the youth, but it will also include lifestyle and food vendors. The event is also a fundraiser to support the Palestinians affected by the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Charity organisations such as Sanzaf, Al Imdaad Foundation and Wings of Mercy will also be present, and attendees will be encouraged to donate what they can.

Excitement For the Upcoming Event

As the Social Intifada group prepares to set up near the end of the day, Harvey expressed the team and volunteers’ electric energy and excitement for the upcoming event. The event will be an enriching, inspiring, and fun experience for all attendees, especially the youth. However, she emphasized the importance of pre-booking these activities to ensure a seamless experience for everyone.

In a statement, Harvey extended her heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support people have shown online by spreading information about the event. Additionally, she is thankful for the community and the support from the venue’s school board, teachers, and principal.

“We want to thank and commend Emmarentia Primary School, the SGB, and the committee. They have provided us with this venue to do what we are passionate about. I think it resonates with their values as a school to empower and educate individuals to be amazing young leaders of South Africa. They have been nothing short of supportive, from the team on the field to the ground staff.”
