Cape Town, South Africa – Protesters are set to gather outside the United States Consulate in Cape Town on Friday as part of the Global Day of Action for Gaza — a coordinated international campaign demanding an end to what organisers describe as genocide in the besieged Palestinian territory. The demonstration is one of many planned across continents to show solidarity with Gaza and to call for an arms embargo against Israel.

The Global Day of Action for Gaza organised by over a dozen pro-Palestinian and anti-war organisations, is mobilising demonstrations in cities worldwide — from Cape Town to London, Los Angeles, New York and beyond. The campaign accuses the US and its allies of enabling Israel’s military campaign in Gaza through arms sales and diplomatic support.

“The Palestinian people of Gaza have been subject to a horrific genocide carried out by Israel with the partnership and complete support of the United States, Britain and Europe,” said PYM Britain in a joint statement with other solidarity groups, including the US Palestine Community Network and the ANSWER Coalition.

The Cape Town protest, organised by local solidarity groups under the banner of “STOP THE GENOCIDE”, aligns with similar actions at US diplomatic missions across Latin America, Europe, and Africa. Demonstrators are demanding an immediate ceasefire, the lifting of the blockade on Gaza, and accountability for alleged war crimes.

This comes amid escalating violence. According to Al Jazeera, more than 60 Palestinians were killed in the latest Israeli airstrikes, with entire families reportedly wiped out in targeted attacks. Simultaneously, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to worsen. French medics on a hunger strike have denounced what they call the “cowardice” of European leaders and called for international intervention.

The demonstration in Cape Town is expected to draw a number of individuals calling for an end to Israel’s aggression in Palestine. It is set to take place from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at 2 Reddam Avenue, Steenberg, Cape Town.
