United States President Donald Trump concluded a significant visit to Saudi Arabia this week where he bagged a series of substantial economic agreements. These deals are valued at approximately $600 billion in investment commitments spanning various sectors, including technology, defence, and energy.

The White House announced the historic $600 billion commitment from Saudi Arabia. This aims to bolster economic ties between the two nations. Key deals include a nearly $142 billion arms agreement. This is described as the largest defence sales agreement in history. It will provide Saudi Arabia with advanced US military equipment.

Technology and diversification drive deals

A significant portion of the agreements focuses on advanced technology, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 plan. The plan aims to diversify its economy beyond oil. US tech giants were prominent in the delegation. CEOs from companies like Nvidia, AMD, and OpenAI accompanied Trump.

Nvidia announced a strategic partnership with Saudi AI startup Humain. They will build “AI factories” in the kingdom. AMD also unveiled a $10 billion deal with Humain for AI infrastructure. These collaborations underscore the push for technological investment and innovation. Other agreements involve companies like Google, Oracle, and Boeing.

The visit also saw President Trump pledge to lift sanctions on Syria. He stated it was time for Syria to move forward. This move was reportedly suggested by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Trump described the US-Saudi relationship as “more powerful than ever before.”

“The deals celebrated today are historic and transformative for both countries and represent a new golden era of partnership between the United States and Saudi Arabia,” the White House said in a statement Tuesday.

However, the visit and deals have drawn some criticism. There are concerns that the engagements overlook Palestine, where Israel is engaged in a 19-month-long genocide.
