Police arrested National Coloured Congress (NCC) leader Fadiel Adams at his Parliamentary Village home on Tuesday morning. This follows his failure to surrender to the South African Police Service (SAPS) on Monday as previously arranged.
Officers executed a J50 warrant for the arrest of the Member of Parliament in Cape Town. The charges include fraud and defeating or obstructing the course of justice.
“Through investigations, the task team discovered that Mr Adams interfered with the now convicted and sentenced hitman at a very sensitive and advanced stage of the police’s investigation,” said police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe.
The SAPS alleges that Adams interfered with a convicted hitman during a sensitive stage of the investigation. This investigation relates to the 2017 murder of former ANC Youth League secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa.

Allegations of police interference
Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed that investigators visited multiple addresses to locate the NCC leader. Authorities previously expected Adams to hand himself over at the Cape Town Central Police Station. Adams reportedly also failed to appear in a KwaZulu-Natal court on Monday.
The murder of Sindiso Magaqa remains a high-profile case involving political violence in South Africa. Investigations have previously linked the 2017 attack to disputes over municipal tenders and local governance.
Police have not provided further details regarding the specific conduct underlying the interference charges. Adams has frequently used his position in parliament to raise issues regarding police corruption and organised crime.
