Salaamedia educates on Mozambique, Yemen, Kashmir crisis in Lenasia

by zeenat

.85 million people have been ravaged by Cyclone Idai in Mozambique. 22 million people are dependent on humanitarian aid in Yemen. The conflict in Kashmir has been going on for over 70 years.
On Saturday, 13 April, Lenasia residents will get the opportunity to hear first-hand accounts about what is happening in these countries at a programme at the Nurul Islam Hall at 3pm. Entrance is free.
The three regions have dominated the news in the first half of 2019 and Salaamedia along with Salaam Foundation will be hosting the event called #Survivor 2019.
They have invited world renowned Yemeni academic, Professor Najib Al Soudi and international Kashmiri journalist, Ruwa Shah to speak about their respective areas. Salaam Foundation’s Azhar Vadi will be talk about his recent visit to the cyclone hit areas of Mozambique.
Each region has its own unique political, humanitarian and historical circumstances, many of which people may never had heard about before.
“We are often asking for charitable donations for different causes that we are involved in and so often people don’t know why they are donating, the historical context that surrounds the country, the reason behind the suffering, or the agendas at play.” said Azhar Vadi. “It is for this reason that we will be hosting a tour and interactive sessions.”
This tour aims to educate people about what’s happening while at the same time raising funds for the humanitarian causes.“If we learn about a particular situation, and gain an understanding of the context surrounding a crises, we then become active citizens that with a passion towards a cause. It is this passion for humanitarian work that is created by attending events of this nature,” said Salaam Foundation CEO Fatima Sookharia
Along with Lenasia a series of other programmes have been planned as well.
