Nadima Noor excited for South African tour

by Salaamedia Intern

South Africa – The excitement continues to build as the visit from Nadima Noor moves closer. Noor, founder of Dream Voice Act, will be in South Africa for two weeks starting from the 17 September. The trip comes at a critical time for Afghanistan and Noor will be hoping to spread awareness and talk about her time in the country.

Noor has spoken numerous times about her work in Afghanistan, providing aid to the people and about the good work the Taliban has been doing. In one of her interviews with Salaamedia, Noor praised the Taliban for protecting women and ensuring illegal guns were removed from ordinary citizens.

“One of the greatest things that the current government [Taliban] did, that I applaud them for, is that they checked each and every home for weaponry, for kidnapping, for illegal drugs. Something that should have been done many many years ago. Now I know my neighbour does not have illegal weapons … That is something that was much needed in this country.”

The trip is one Noor is looking forward to

Senior presenter at Salaamedia, Mariam Mia, has been working tirelessly to bring Noor to South Africa. Salaamedia, in partnership with the South African National Muslim Women’s Forum, are proud to be part of the journey to bring Noor to our wonderful country. Noor is currently getting ready for the trip but expressed to Mia how grateful she was for this opportunity.

“I spoke to her and I said ‘I’m coming on the radio, what do you like me to tell the South African society?’ She said tell them I’m so grateful that Salaammedia in conjunction with the South African National Muslim Women’s Forum is granting me this opputunrity. I come here not only with my voice but I come here with the shared stories and with my interactions with the sisters in Afghanistan that I’ve interacted with in the various provinces. I’m coming with their stories. I’m coming with their messages. I’d like to connect our hearts, the sisters of South Africa’s hearts to be connected with the sisters of Afghanistan. Our minds meet and for us to share in our stories, our challenges together. What’s happening and just to bridge the gap that we’re a global village now.”

The venues to meet Noor

Noor’s trip will give the South African community an in depth look at what exactly is going on in Afghanistan. Currently Mia is trying to finalise the venues that will be hosting Noor. Although the tour is two weeks, there are many places for Noor to visit before she leaves. For those who will not be able to attend one of the programmes, Mia said there will be a virtual meeting so everyone can take benefit from Noor no matter where they are.

“We’re trying to put in as many engagements as possible. What we will have is, through Salaamedia platforms, before she leaves definitely a virtual meeting. Those localities and places we were not able to visit, we will create a platform where whoever wants to engage, they can listen in and send questions to Salaamedia.”

Noor will be having her programmes in Tzaneen, Polokwane, Benoni, Middleburg, Nelspruit, Roshnee, Pretoria and Johannesburg. The virtual meeting will be held for those who are unable the programmes. It is a valuable opportunity to learn more about Afghanistan and the work going on there from someone on the ground.
