Gauteng – The non-profit organisation WeSolve4x has launched an exciting new inter-school mathematics competition for grade 6 learners in Gauteng. In partnership with Gibela Rails, this initiative aims to inspire young minds and enhance their maths skills nationwide.

The competition will kick off on October 5 at Nigel Primary School, where students can showcase their maths abilities. Those who score 75% or higher will qualify for the final round, scheduled for November.

Participating in the competition offers students numerous benefits, including immediate support in preparing for term exams, developing problem-solving skills, building confidence, and fostering a love for mathematics. More importantly, it sets them on a path of continuous learning and improvement in their academic journey.

WeSolve4x CEO Tsietsi Ngobese emphasised that the competition is free for all grade 6 learners, schools, and parents, regardless of their background or location. The doors are wide open, and those interested are warmly encouraged to sign up on their website.

While the initial focus is on schools within Gauteng, the future is bright with plans to expand the initiative to other regions. This expansion will bring more learners into the fold and offer an online option to ensure broader participation.

“The competition is open to all Grade Six learners for now. In the future, we will also incorporate other grades. Still, we are excited to launch the first-of-its-kind prestigious event where we will be hosting learners and demonstrating the practical application of mathematics. We will also bring them together to compete with other learners so that they can see that they are the best of the best.”

Improving Mathematics Proficiency Nationwide

The Gibela WeSolve4x Maths Competition is part of a larger initiative by the organisation to tackle the serious issue of mathematics proficiency in the country. Since 2013, Ngobese noted that WeSolve4x has been committed to improving students’ maths skills by offering free classes to learners from grade 4 to grade 12.

The organisation also extends valuable support to parents, equipping them to help their children with homework and other academic challenges they may face. Beyond their educational programs, WeSolve4x is actively involved in various community development projects aimed at fostering a supportive and conducive learning environment for students.

They have played a crucial role in constructing safe and sanitary toilets in rural schools, addressing a significant need that directly affects students’ well-being and their ability to concentrate on their studies.

“We assist in helping some of our 2000 volunteers who are students with historic student debt. We raise funds to settle their student debt so they can continue with their studies or careers. However, our core focus is elevating the maths pass rate in the country, inspiring the next generation of actual and thought leaders, and ensuring that we increase the maths proficiency in the country by paying it forward.”
