Salaam Foundation rebuilds Imaam’s home after fire

by zeenat

In 2018, viral images of a dilapidated zinc structure serving as a Musallah and Madressah to people living in an area called Mountain View, Johannesburg south, reached the mobile devices of the Salaam Foundation.

Through the committed help of donors and dedeicated team members, a complete male and female facility was put up in the community that doubles up as a madressah and learning centre for the children of the area. Located at the top of a mountain has often made it difficult for any assistance to reach them.

In 2019, the home of the resident Imaam, Sheikh Moosa, caught alight and was destroyed in its entirety.
Salaam Foundation has taken on the responsibility to rebuild his home so that the Imaam can continue being of service to the community with a decent roof over his head. The future plans for the centre include the full establishment of a community garden, school tutorial programmes and skills development programmes.

This is a long term engagement and relationship we have set up with the community and a powerful South African based project. We would like to join us on this journey as well.
