Salaamedia’s outreach program recipient gets overwhelming response

by Umamah Bakharia

JOHANNESBURG – Last week, Salaamedia organised an outside broadcast at Tembisa, north of Johannesburg, on The Nafeesa Dangor Show, to raise awareness and applaud the hard work of an elderly caregiver, Sindiswa Mabindisa.

Founder of ‘Wretched Woman’s Diary’, Sindiswa Mabindisa, 29, is a witness of injustice against the elderly and is an activist against the neglect of senior citizens.

The organisation was founded in 2019, after Sindiswa saw the need to help the elderly with disabilities and mental limitations by bathing them with her own toiletries, washing their laundry, cooking and carrying them on her back to the clinic.

“People tell me ‘you can’t give what you don’t have’ but I have been doing that every day,” said Sindiswa.

Last week, the Fakir family from Homestead Park donated a wheelchair that they were not using to help Sindiswa transport the elderly to the clinic. Hello Group gifted Sindiswa a phone and as sim cards that she can use to sell prepaid electricity and airtime.

However, due to overwhelming positive review, other companies have reached out to assist Sindiswa and applaud her for her selflessness.

African Pride’s Ahmed Akoob and Thabitha Malinga, Founder & CEO of Thabie Mobile Spa & Beauty Academy, appeared on The Nafeesa Dangor Show to surprise Mabindisa with additional gifts.

“I was deeply moved by her work and her life experiences despite the overwhelming challenges just to get by on a day to day basis. Sindiswa is what I call the healer of the community,” said Ahmed Akoob.

Akoob did not feel his gift voucher to Sindiswa was enough and reached out to Thabitha Mabindisa at 5am in the morning to see if he could assist in showing appreciation towards the caregiver.

“I got goosebumps when I watched her [Sindiswa’s] video because she is indeed an angel and this is the type of person that I want to be associated with,” said Malinga.

Akoob has gifted Sindiswa a R 1000,00 gift voucher from African Pride, R 2 500. 00 Cash, and a R500.00 Uber voucher to bring Sandiswa to African Pride.

Malinga gifted her a free Nail Technology Course (Acrylic Nail System, Gel Nail System, Nail Art, Basic Manicure and Pedicure), 1 Week Business Mentorship which includes all the travelling costs to and from training courtesy of Thabitha Malinga for 2 weeks of the training and study materials.

“I am overwhelmed with all the love, I am truly blessed,” said Sindiswa in tears.
