South Africa – Salaamedia’s very own Mariam Mia believes experienced media professionals must invest their time in mentoring, advising, and supporting the next wave of media talents. She maintains it is equally vital for them to set up pathways that encourage skills development and personal growth amongst the youth.
Consequently, Mia encourages young Muslims to serve as exemplary representatives of Islam within their chosen professions. They should have confidence in their capabilities and commit to ongoing learning so they may pass on these values to future generations.

While Mia may not have undergone a formal initiation into the media industry, she has consistently delivered noteworthy and influential contributions not only to South African communities but also on a global scale.
Remarkably, Mia played a pivotal role in shedding light on the situation of the Afghan people during their turbulent shift from Western occupation to Taliban governance. Collaborating closely with Afghan activist Nadima, she offered diverse perspectives on the post-transition conditions in Afghanistan.
Her efforts raised awareness about the significant contributions made by women to their evolving societies, highlighting the living conditions of Afghan women, children, and men.

She attributes a significant role to her father in shaping her fascination with the media. His unwavering encouragement, to pursue her interests, amplify the voices that often go unheard, and utilise her abilities to instigate positive societal changes, holds a special place in her heart.
