Palestine – Acts of cruelty, barbarism and inhumanity unquestionably characterise the 75-year-long occupation in Palestine.

What often goes unnoticed is that this is not just an assault on Hamas but constitutes a form of genocide as the oppressive Zionist regime continues its campaign of ethnically cleansing the Palestinians in Gaza and other Palestinian territories. Aided by Western powers, their actions are still very much controlled by a white supremacist ideology.

The Israeli military and settlers constantly intimidate, terrorise, humiliate, and inflict harm upon Palestinians in Gaza, East Jerusalem, and the occupied West Bank, regardless of their age, gender, or religion. While simultaneously annexing Palestinian territories to accommodate Jewish immigrants worldwide.

Therefore, it’s enough to deduce that Israel’s actions are acts of colonialism. Since its establishment in 1948, Israel has forcibly expelled and displaced Palestinians from their ancestral lands.

Their brutality mirrors the efforts of former colonial European powers, who, with little regard for indigenous peoples’ cultures, societies, boundaries, and knowledge, engaged in similar actions in Africa and the Americas, Asia, and Oceania. They’ve committed countless atrocities, all under the pretext of “civilisation”.

Hence, the support extended by Western powers to Israel may seem perplexing, but it is a case of “birds of a feather”.

A History of Colonialism

Colonialism is an unjust and savage historical practice which involves the forceful domination of one group over another, a painful experience for those from countries, who are, until today, recovering from it.

The 1884 Berlin Conference, where European leaders divided the African continent among themselves, is a stark example of this greed-driven exploitation.

The atrocities committed in Africa, such as the exploitation and dismemberment of the Congolese population by the Belgian King, Leopold II, share similarities with the current situation of the people in Gaza.

It’s not only former colonial powers who are complicit in the murder, destruction and displacement of indigenous people, even countries like the United States. What is surprising is their backing of Israel’s colonisation, even though they fought for and still celebrate their liberation from British colonial rule.

However, history demonstrates the insatiable thirst for greed, wealth, and power can lead even those who sought freedom to become oppressors.

Since Israel’s establishment, the United States has consistently supported their dominance over the Palestinians through substantial financial aid, military assistance, and diplomatic cooperation, all while securing a foothold in the Middle East.

Apartheid Israel

Beyond power dynamics, Israel’s actions are influenced by xenophobia and racism. The nation’s foundation is rooted in a belief in its superiority, with a structured hierarchy placing Jews above Arabs and white above black and brown individuals.

Due to this ingrained racial, ethnic, and institutionalised sense of superiority, Israel has faced condemnation and been labelled an apartheid state, which is illegal under international law. However, the international community condemns Israel differently from other former apartheid states.

Palestinians endure discrimination regarding their rights, opportunities, movements, laws and freedoms compared to Israeli citizens and Jewish settlers. This unequal treatment extends to Western media, where Israel’s transgressions and war crimes are not held to the same standards as those of other nations.

The notion of a “superior race” underpins some of these actions, which is ironic considering the historical persecution of the Jewish people, not only by the Nazis but also by certain European countries that now staunchly support Israel.

Hence, criticising their actions should not be misconstrued as anti-Semitism, a term often employed to censure or silence advocates for the Palestinian cause. Instead, supporting Palestinians should be viewed as endorsing the broader principles of Semitism.

After all, a Semite is defined as someone who speaks a Semitic language, encompassing both Jews and Arabs.

Western Media Colonial Speech Shaping Palestinian Narratives

Considering global media conglomerates originate from these Western nations, they operate using colonial ideology and speech. Thus substantially influencing and shaping narratives, swaying public opinion, and suppressing dissent when deemed necessary.

Nonetheless, as they endeavour to downplay Israel’s flagrant atrocities through their media outlets, such as CNN, SkyNews, BBC, and various Meta platforms, they are losing the information war. This is because, while they may attempt to manipulate their citizens, their efforts falter globally, regardless of how vigorously they strive.

Such is the arrogance of their narratives that Western media would lead us to believe that Hamas led the Al Ahli Baptist Hospital massacre despite Israel having decimated entire neighbourhoods, targeting refugee areas, civilian convoys, ambulances, hospitals and places of worship.

No matter how vehemently Western media organisations try to silence supporters of the Palestinian cause and mitigate the stark reality of genocide unfolding, history will forever record the hypocrisy of former colonial nations and international institutions who lent their support to acts of murder, displacement, and oppression by the Israeli regime.
