The Palestinian village of Nabi Saleh is reeling after the murder of three-year-old Muhammad al-Tamimi by the Israeli Defence Force (IDF). The boy was in a car with his father when he was fatally shot.

Speaking in an interview with Salaamedia, a local journalist and human rights activist, Bilal Tamimi, said what had happened last Thursday was an act of savagery. He himself had been shot in the hand by soldiers while filming the aggression.

“Last Thursday, I did not see soldiers. I saw savage people. I saw humans without humanity. They were targeting every life in front of them. Even some people [were] not allowed to leave their stores.”

The official story from the IDF was that troops had opened fire after supposed Palestinian gunmen fired at a guardpost. However, Tamimi said no such gunfire occurred in the first place.

“In the village, we know that there were no shooting and no throwing stones or clashing and the child was in front of his house. His father was trying to take him to hide the car in a safer place when he saw soldiers shooting on the other side of the village,” he said.

The boy’s father is believed to still be in a Palestinian hospital after sustaining injury. He is not in a critical condition.

Since the start of 2023, at least 156 Palestinians have been killed at the brutal hands of Israeli forces. This figure includes 26 children, according to media tallies.
