Placing South Africa under lockdown is our last resort in fighting the coronavirus pandemic outbreak, according to an expert.
Professor Alex Van De Heever of the Wits School of Governance said: “I don’t think the government has any other choice – it’s what other governments are doing and really it’s the only way to eliminate a highly infectious disease of this nature.”
Considering that this is the first time a nationwide lockdown will be implemented, Van De Heever gives his thoughts on how the lockdown might be enforced.
“It will be interesting to see how it’s done here. I would expect that we will have roadblocks and patrols. We would have some sort of security presence.”
